Located in the state capital of Amapá, Macapá International Airport – Alberto Alcolumbre is the main air access point for the Amazon region. Located about 3 km from the city center, the airport is strategic for both passenger and cargo flow, connecting Amapá to other parts of Brazil and the world. His name honors Alberto Alcolumbre, a politician and entrepreneur who contributed to the development of the state. Inaugurated in the 1970s, the airport underwent several extensions and modernizations to meet the growing demand of the region. In 2019, a new passenger terminal was delivered, replacing the old structure. Modernization included significant expansion, turning the airport into a functional space aligned with international standards. The new terminal is modern and well equipped, with an area of over 27,000 square meters. It has large boarding and landing rooms, luggage mats, and spaces that ensure comfort to passengers. There are four boarding bridges and capacity to serve up to 4.5 million passengers per year. Food squares offer several options, from snack bars and coffee shops to restaurants that serve regional dishes, allowing visitors to introduce the rich Amazonian cuisine. Souvenir stores, local products and conveniences are available to meet the needs of travelers. Among the amenities, free Wi-Fi stands out, resting areas, diapers, pharmacies and information counters. The airport is also adapted for people with reduced mobility, with ramps, elevators and affordable bathrooms. The airport operates 24 hours a day and connects Macapá to important Brazilian cities, such as Belém, Brasilia, Sao Paulo and Fortaleza. It receives about 1.3 million passengers annually, being one of the busiest in the northern region. In cargo transportation, it is vital to state logistics, which depends on air modal for various types of goods.
