In the middle of the first decade of the twentieth century, it was granted to the Protective Association of Sea Men which, in it, glimpsed to build a rescue post. In the late 1930s, in the beautiful Insule, a group of scouts and a school field of movement was installed. He also hosted sports events, tourism activities, various tours, civic ceremonies and artistic shows. Its facilities have been broken and have been rebuilt several times. The history of Boa Viagem Island begins in 1650 with the construction of the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem. The chapel was destroyed during the French invasion of 1711 and rebuilt in 1780, in a neoclassical style. Historical records point to the year 1702 as a landmark of the beginning of the construction of Fortim, which had between five or six artillery pieces. The house, known as the Castle, was built in the 1940s and housed the headquarters of the Scouts of the Sea. In addition to the religious vocation, the monument was historically destined for military purposes. The privileged view of Guanabara Bay has made the island part of the former Brazilian defensive system. The interventions recovered the buildings of the Chapel of Our Lady of Boa Viagem, Fortim and the house known as the Castle. Open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10am to 5pm. (tagstotranslate) Travel
