Metropolitan arch of Rio de Janeiro, from Rod. Dutra to Rod. Rio-Santos.

The Raphael de Almeida Magalhães highway, popularly known as Rio de Janeiro’s metropolitan arch (or just as a metropolitan arch), is a highway that was built around the Rio de Janeiro Metropolitan Region with the mission of diverting the intense traffic from vehicles that only cross the city of Rio de Janeiro, thus decreasing traffic jams to the city. The main objectives of the construction of the Metropolitan Arc are: -Interligrating the various expressways of entry and exit of the municipality of Rio de Janeiro facilitating the flow of normal traffic and also in case of problems in any of the roads; -Evite the unnecessary entry of vehicles that are only passing through the city of Rio de Janeiro and some of the municipalities of Baixada Fluminense, thus reducing traffic jams on the Rio-Niterói bridge and via Dutra, among other roads; -Force express access to the port of Itaguaí and the future Petrochemical Polo the Comperj (Petrochemical Complex of the State of Rio de Janeiro), in the city of Itaboraí; -Develop areas of the metropolitan region that are now economically inexpressive.
